Tento článek zkoumá, jak se gender a romská etnicita protínaly v patriarchální struktuře rumunského státního socialismu, a to na základě dvou případových studií oddělených třemi desetiletími. První se týká 14leté romské dívky, která byla umístěna do ústavu jako „mladistvá delikventka“ poté, co v roce 1951 nahlásila sexuální zneužívání svým pěstounem. Druhá případová studie se zabývá ženou, která v roce 1981 udala svého násilnického romského manžela Securitate za politické zločiny. Oba případy odhalují, jak třída, věk a gender formovaly institucionální rozhodnutí opačným způsobem: „nemorálnost“ dívky byla rasově motivována a potrestána, zatímco násilí muže bylo zdomácněno a odpuštěno. Článek interpretuje udání, sociální zprávy a charakterové posudky jako genderově podmíněné byrokratické praktiky a zkoumá, jak socialistické instituce pod rouškou morální a sociální reformy udržovaly patriarchální a rasové hierarchie.Reference
