Author Guidelines

Focus and Scope

Romano Džaniben is the only Czech Journal of Romani Studies whose contributions are subject to a peer-review process and which is published both in print and online in a freely accessible format. It was founded in 1994 and is published by the registered association of the same name, Romano Džaniben. The journal accepts, for peer review, studies and material dealing with Roma society, history, language and culture in the broadest sense. The journal also accepts review articles, i.e. more comprehensive reviews that take into account the broader context of the topic of the reviewed publication. Each issue of the journal also features (in non-peer-reviewed sections) a diverse range of interviews, personal profiles, memoirs, book reviews and discussions.

By submitting an article for consideration for publication in the journal, the author agrees to the license terms.

Please send your contributions by registering/logging in on this website. If you need advice, please do not hesitate to contact the editorial office: redakce@dzaniben.cz

Specific guidelines for authors

Text formatting

In your text, use Times New Roman font, size 12, double-spaced, justified alignment. Footnotes and longer quotations indented in the text should be in font size 11. Quotations longer than two lines should be indented separately.

Language

We publish texts in Czech, Slovak, and Romani. Upon agreement, texts may also be submitted in other languages. Such texts will be translated and published in Czech.

The article must contain

- title

- abstract in the language of the text and in English (both max. 250 words)

- keywords in the language of the text and in English (3–6 words)

- information about the author (e-mail, job title, institution/workplace, ORCID).

Citation standard

We follow the APA citation style (7th edition), which uses in-text citations (author–date). We apply this style to texts from all academic disciplines, although specific conventions may vary in some fields (e.g., in historical studies, footnotes for citations are sometimes preferred).

Basic rules

- citations in the text are enclosed in parentheses: (Author, year, p. xx)

- the list of references is sorted alphabetically by the surname of the first author

- if there are several works by the same author from the same year, they are distinguished by lowercase letters:

(Hübschmannová, 2000a), (Hübschmannová, 2000b)

- titles of books, journals, and edited volumes are written in italics, other elements (e.g., article or chapter titles) in regular font.

- in the bibliography, English titles use sentence case—capital letters only for the first word and proper nouns.

References in the text

One author:

(Hübschmannová, 1993)
Hübschmannová (1993) states that ...

(Matras, 2002, p. 59)
(Guy, 1998, p. 16–17)
(Guy, 1998; Hübschmannová, 1993, 2000; Matras, 2002)

Two authors

(Marushiakova a Popov, 2020)

Three or more authors

(Sadílková et al., 2018)

List of references

Authors

In the list of references, unlike in the text, we always list the names of all authors, even if there are three or more. All authors are listed, separated by commas, with "a" before the last name:

Sadílková, H., Slačka, D. and Závodská, M. (2018). Aby bylo i s námi počítáno: Společensko-politická angažovanost Romů a snahy o založení romské organizace v poválečném Československu. Muzeum romské kultury.

Bibliography order

We sort the references alphabetically by the last name of the first author/editor; if the author is the same, sort chronologically (older → newer texts).

Sentence case

In accordance with APA style, we use sentence case in bibliographic references – for English titles, we capitalize only the first word and proper names (The time of the Gypsies, not The Time of the Gypsies).

DOI/URL

If a DOI exists for the text, it is given in full at the end of the record (https://doi.org/...).
